On-trend interior colours

We have already looked at some of the interior design trends of 2020, but we thought it would be good to have a look at popular colours for the year too. With us all being stuck indoors with little to do at the moment, it is a great opportunity to throw some paint on your walls and redesign your house.

Going back to nature

Firstly, let’s delve into the world of Farrow & Ball. If anyone knows about the best paint colour, it is them. They are predicting their green nature-based colours will be a popular choice this year, particularly Duck Green and Sap Green. Wimborne White is also said to be a favourite, along with Stiffkey Blue. Pantone’s colour of the year is Classic Blue, so this comes as no real surprise.

You may have noticed whilst scrolling through Pinterest and putting together your interior design mood board, that people are turning to bolder colours this year. It is all about using colours that make us feel proud of our homes, and feeling surrounded by nature.

Wallpaper designs

Wallpaper is a great way to add a touch of your personal style to any room. Again there seems to be a shift towards prints with a nature theme. The National Trust have even collaborated with Little Greene to release a collection of stunning green, nature based wallpapers. A lot of these designs are also full of colourful animals and flowers, so they are a great way to brighten up your home.

Beige is making a return

Whilst Generation Z are likely to opt for brighter paint colours such as vibrant yellows and oranges, older generations seem to be sticking to traditional neutrals such as whites and beiges. Over the past few years, grey has been the neutral colour of choice, but 2020 sees the return of beige. It is a great colour to add a little sophistication to the walls, and it is also a lovely soothing tone. Interior design plays a big part in affecting our mood, so if you are wanting a more relaxing environment, choose more neutral colours.

Mustard is swapped for spicy yellow

If you look through the interior design catalogues for autumn/winter 2019, you will have noticed pinks and dark blues taking the limelight. Yellow was rarely seen, and most people are scared to include it within their interior decor. The best way to stay on trend with colours in 2020 is to add little touches of new colour. For example, add a spicy yellow throw over your grey sofa, or a yellow cushion for added warmth. Contrast is the key here - yellow mixes well with black, grey and blue. You could always add some bohemian style with a fringed yellow carpet.
